Erebuni 2: Directions. Schematic Map

The town of Erebuni and its citadel were founded in 782 BCE by King Argishti I. The town lay around the foot of Arin Berd hill, where the fortress stood. The stronghold was built 65 meters above the town and covered an area of 3 hectares.

Erebuni archaeological museum, which houses exhibits unearthed at the Erebuni and Teyshebaini (Karmir Bur) sites, opened in 1968.

Architects for the museum are Shmavon Azatyan and Baghdasar Arzumanyan, and the bas-relief sculpture is by the sculptor Ara Harutyunyan.

In visiting the museum you can explore the history of the Urartian state and exhibits of excavated artifacts. Go left around the museum building to go up to Erebuni citadel excavation itself where you can explore architectural monuments inside the citadel.
