Erebuni Museum Hall 1 - Display 1
Water was supplied to Erebuni citadel through a gravity-fed underground pipeline. The pipeline, its source supplied most probably from Garni, was made of stone pipes carved with joints that fit into each other. Each pipe was on average one meter long, with an external diameter of 0.4m and an internal diameter of 0.1m.Some segments of the pipeline had rectangular openings meant for controlling the water flow and for cleaning. As a sophisticated engineering structure, this type of pipeline set the norm for succeeding centuries and was in use for almost 2000 years. During archeological excavations in central Yerevan a similar pipeline, probably dating to the 11th century, was unearthed.
